Resolution: 10th anniversary of the Great Lakes Information Network (GLIN)
Adopted on October 15, 2002

Whereas, the Great Lakes Information Network (GLIN) is a necessary component of informed decisionmaking, and a trusted and reliable source of information for all those who live, work or have an interest in the Great Lakes region; and

Whereas, GLIN offers a wealth of data and information about the region's environment, economy, tourism, education and related resources; and

Whereas, GLIN offers a heightened profile for all Great Lakes organizations' web content via a single, well-organized GLIN web site, and enhanced collaboration using tools such as e-mail lists and GIS mapping applications; and

Whereas, GLIN was formally established and went online in 1993 with the enthusiastic support of the Great Lakes states and provinces; and

Whereas, GLIN has been recognized by the United Nations and used as a model for similar initiatives involving shared watersheds in South America and the Baltic states; and

Whereas, GLIN has received numerous awards for its cultural importance, exceptional content and quality, and effective design; and

Therefore, be it resolved, that the Great Lakes Commission formally recognizes the 10-year anniversary of GLIN and applauds its extraordinary success, and the leadership of the GLIN Advisory Board, in addressing a unique and previously unmet need; and

Be it further resolved, that the Great Lakes Commission applauds all current and past funders of GLIN for their commitment and forethought in seeing the power of the Internet and how it could aid communications in the Great Lakes region; and

Be it finally resolved, that the Great Lakes Commission urges the states and provinces and all Great Lakes agencies and organizations to partner with GLIN to enhance their visibility on the Internet.

Unanimously adopted by the Great Lakes Commission at its Annual Meeting, October 15, 2002 in Cleveland, Ohio.
