The Board of Directors of the Great Lakes Commission has unanimously endorsed two resolutions, which will lay the groundwork for new project development in the first quarter of 2004.   1. Establishing a Regional Association for the Great Lakes Observing System
  2. Expansion of Regional Atmospheric Deposition Programs



October 1-3, 2003 in Chicago, Illinois
The eight member states of the Great Lakes Commission have unanimously endorsed six policy resolutions that will guide the organization's planning, research and advocacy activities in the coming months. Topics include support for/ comments on proposed federal ecosystem restoration legislation; use of sound science in coastal wetlands policy; development of restoration goals for Areas of Concern clean-up; the need for a basinwide study of land use/ water quality impacts; distribution of port security funds; and funding for the Great Lakes Water Level Observation Network.   1. Great Lakes Ecosystem Restoration Planning
  2. Use of Sound Science in Great Lakes Coastal Wetlands Policy
  3. Supporting the Development of Science-Based, Locally-Derived Restoration Goals for Great Lakes Areas of Concern
  4. Support for Fair Distribution of Port Security Funds in the Great Lakes
  5. A Basinwide Study of Land Use Trends, Impacts and Policy Responses
  6. Maintaining and Enhancing the Great Lakes Water Level Observation Network
