The Great Lakes Commission sponsored a binational scientific synthesis effort through its U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-funded Great Lakes Air Deposition (GLAD) program. The purpose was to foster binational collaboration among mercury researchers and resource managers to compile a wide variety of mercury data for the Great Lakes region, and to address key questions concerning mercury contamination.

Great Lakes recreational boating’s economic punch

This report describes a network of manufacturers, retailers, restaurants, marinas, charter operators, repair facilities, lodgings and other businesses that depend upon or get a significant chunk of their business from recreational boating. Charts provide a breakdown of annual and per-trip spending by boat size, as well as the location and names of all active recreational harbors on the Great Lakes.

Lake St. Clair Coastal Habitat Assessment 2006

Nearly all the coastal wetlands and other natural habitat that historically surrounded Lake St. Clair has been degraded or lost as industry, urbanization, commercial agriculture and suburban development have reshaped the landscape. From 2002 to 2005, the Great Lakes Commission led a Lake St. Clair project focused on providing information and tools to guide future development and planning for the conservation and restoration of the area’s coastal habitat.
