Ohio Balanced Growth Roundtable
Overview On January 21, 2005, nearly 70 individuals representing local, state, regional, federal and academic interests within the Lake Erie basin participated in the Great Lakes Commission's Ohio Balanced Growth Roundtable, entitled Measuring Change Toward Balanced Growth. Building upon recommendations from Ohio's Balanced Growth Task Force, the roundtable focused on the development of environmental and programmatic indicators to measure progress toward achieving balanced growth through Ohio's Balanced Growth Program. Outcomes from the roundtable have been compiled into the following meeting summary that includes a suite of 27 tiered indicators that have been recommended to the Ohio Lake Erie Commission for their consideration and action.
This "by invitation" roundtable was jointly sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Great Lakes National Program Office and the Great Lakes Commission, with additional financial and in-kind support from Cleveland State University's Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, the Levin College Forum Program, and the Center for Environmental Science, Technology, and Policy; the Ohio Lake Erie Commission; Michigan State University Extension; and numerous other Ohio agencies and organizations represented on the project Steering Committee. The Ohio roundtable was part of the Great Lakes Commission's state-specific roundtable series designed to promote sustainable land use in the Great Lakes basin.
